Local Food Spot on the Mainland
Looking for a hidden gem in Omole Phase 1 with good traditional dishes that offers good value for your money?
Well, this might be the spot if you don’t mind the wait time. We checked out African Garden Bar, a hidden gem in Omole Phase 1, and here’s the gist:
African Garden Bar is tucked inside the quiet Omofade Crescent in Omole. It’s one of those hidden spots you discover by chance and end up loving. The space is calm, with garden vibes, tasty local food, and a nice outdoor feel.
The wooden chairs, open-air setup, and African-style decor give it that local, relaxed look without doing too much.

Meals we had
- Isi Ewu: This was definitely the highlight. Soft, spicy, and full of flavour. The portion was generous and it tasted really good. If you love isi ewu, this one is worth trying.
- Chairman Fish: This was hands down one of the biggest grilled fish we’ve ordered for. The pepper sauce was delicious, and even though it didn’t come with sides, we ordered fries separately and it worked perfectly. It’s big enough to share between two- three people.
- Nkwobi: This didn’t quite meet expectations. The taste and texture were off, and it just didn’t hit the mark. But other meals compensated for this.
Drinks we had
We had Flying Fish and Smirnoff Ice. We also tried the palm wine, but it didn’t have that smooth, tangy taste we usually enjoy. It was okay, but it depends on your personal preference.

Total Cost
- Isi Ewu: N10,500
- Chairman Catfish: N15,000
- Nkowbi: N6,000
- French Fries: N3,500
- Palm wine: N2,500
- Flying Fish: N2,500
- Smirnoff Ice: N2,500
To have a good time at the African Garden Bar, you’ll need around N15,000 per person, which makes it an affordable spot to hang out. The food is nice, and the restaurant setting gives off a green, calm, chill vibe. But keep in mind, their service was slow during our visit. If you’re really hungry or in a hurry, you might want to eat a snack before going.
Overall, we recommend the African Garden Bar if you’re looking for a hidden gem in Omole Phase 1 that wouldn’t break the bank.
