African Restaurant in Victoria Island

The African Contemporary Gem in Victoria Island!

In Lagos, there are restaurants that have maintained their excellence over the years, and a prime example is Nok by Alara, an African restaurant in Victoria Island.  We call them the “Restaurant Odogwu” because they understand the secret of success and know the business inside out.

Nok by Alara is a contemporary African restaurant in Lagos, and they have a variety of African dishes on their menu. It is an intimate dining space displaying contemporary art and designs from all over the continent. They have an outdoor area, with mats and plants here and there. It is beautiful and the indoor area is better for dining with friends.

If you have friends that just got back from abroad (IJGB) and are looking to have boujee amala, then take them to Nok by Alara! Their amala is quite popular, and it is an elite dining spot.

The main reason we visited Nok was for the food. The food here is thoughtfully prepared and tastes amazing, and here are the meals we had, tested, trusted, and approved!

  • Braised duck pastel with mango chutney
  • Jamaican curry goat shoulder
  • Beef short ribs braised with mustard and caramelised onions

Everything we just listed hit the spot and had no complaints at all.

We also had mocktails, and we tried out their:

  • Elderflower Mojito: This drink was classic, and it tasted great.
  • Lagos Mule: My friend tried this out, and it was okay
  • Tropical waters: This was our least favourite.

While the food stole the spotlight, I’ll keep it real—the service was a bit off. Our waiter seemed in a hurry; there was also a menu error, and we almost got overcharged , but hey, the food made us forget all about it and would I visit again? Yes!

Total Cost

  • Jamaican curry goat shoulder: N12,500
  • Beef short ribs braised with mustard and caramelised onions:N14,500
