Discover Ona Lagos—Where African DIshes are Redefined
We recently paid a visit to a chef-owned spot in Lagos because, honestly, these places don’t get shown enough love. And Ona Lagos is not just another restaurant. It’s one of the most exciting and unique places to eat in Lagos, especially if you’re into food that tells a story.
From the moment you walk in, you can tell this isn’t your average dining experience.
Owned by the talented Chef Obehi, Ona Lagos is built around the idea of redefining African cuisine. And we love a spot that dares to be different.
The Space
Ona Lagos is located in Victoria Island, but the calm vibe makes it feel like a little escape from the city noise. From the moment we stepped in, we loved the look of the place. It has an African-themed aesthetic with warm lights, simple but stylish furniture, and friendly staff.
It gives date night vibes, classy but not stiff. You can come here to relax, have good food, and enjoy a quiet moment with someone special or a small group of friends.

Meals we had
Now, the real reason we came is the food. The menu at Ona Lagos is not your regular rice and chicken. It’s creative and has interesting twists on African meals. Here’s what we ordered:
- Smoked Land Snails and Sea Snails(Starters): These had a creamy and tangy taste with a smoky feel. If you like trying new things, you’ll enjoy this. But if you’re not that adventurous, maybe skip this one.
- Korean Chicken Wings: We also had these as a starter. They were delicious! Crispy, saucy, and full of flavour. This is a safe and tasty choice for everyone, especially those that have a Nigerian taste bud.
- Gbegiri Ravioli(Main Dish): This meal had us surprised. It’s a twist on the Yoruba gbegiri soup, but served as pasta. Creamy and tasty, we liked it a lot.
- Smoked Antelope with Prosciutto(Main Dish): The antelope was soft and smoky, and the prosciutto added a nice salty touch. It was rich and filling.
- Shio Koji Confit Rabbit(Main Dish): This was one of the most interesting meals we’ve had in Lagos. The rabbit was juicy and well-seasoned. If you like soft meat that melts in your mouth, this is for you.

- Sticky Pudding: Warm and sweet, just like a proper comfort dessert. This one was simple but very satisfying.
- Canele de Bordeaux: A small French dessert that’s crunchy on the outside and soft inside. It tasted really nice and ended the meal well.
For Drinks we had
- Lemongrass Lemonade: Light, fresh, and perfect with the food.
- Roasted Pina Mojito: Sweet with a smoky pineapple flavour. This was our favourite drink of the night.
