Simply put, Overnight oats are a quick and easy breakfast or snack made by soaking rolled oats in liquid overnight. It’s so quick to make and very healthy. With this LAGOS Traffic, it’s the perfect breakfast for a 9 – 5.
Would you believe that one serving of these overnight oats contains nearly half of your daily fibre requirements?
Here’s what you’ll need to make Overnight Oats:
1/2 Cup(s) Golden City Oats
1/2 spoon(s) milk
1 Teaspoon of Greek Yoghurt
1 Tablespoon(s) Honey
1 Teaspoon(s) shredded coconut, diced fruits of your choice
Oats: You can’t make overnight oats without oats, Duh!!!!! Overnight oats are typically made with plain old-fashioned oats. From the top of my head I can recommend some brands (Quaker, Golden City, Kelloggs…..) but my favourite brand is Golden City, it just tastes perfect!
Milk of choice: You can use any of your favourite milk here (almond milk, coconut milk from a carton, homemade cashew milk, homemade pecan milk, oat milk or cow’s milk). I suppose you could use water instead of milk, but the final result won’t be quite as creamy or flavourful. In Nigeria, our go to milk is cow milk so I’ll recommend Peak, or Loyal milk because these are my faves. Any milk works really.
Honey: To think I always hated honey because of its relationship with bees, well overnight oats definitely brought us closer. It’s the perfect sweetener (for people like us with a sweet tooth- very optional ingredient).
Fruit: Nature’s candy! Now that we’ve formed the base of the oats, the next step is to add fruits and on this you can add any fruits of your choice. If you will like to keep your oats in the fridge for up to 5 days, (Yes, overnight oats can last that long—-WITH CONSISTENT ELECTRICITY OOOOOO! ), I advise you to use fruits that store well for days if you will like to store your oats for over a day ( apples, berries, coconut flakes etc) or, you can top your oats with fruit before serving.
Now go ye into the world and enjoy overnight oats!!!!
Ciao,
Bella
